DEADLINE FOR ESOS PHASE 2 IS FAST APPROACHING

Is your business prepared for Phase 2 of ESOS (the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) which began on 6th December 2015? Companies with more than 250 members of staff or with a turnover in excess of €50M and balance sheet in excess of €43M must comply by 5th December 2019.

ESOS is a mandatory energy assessment scheme for organisations in the UK that meet the qualification criteria and the Environment Agency is the UK scheme administrator. Organisations that qualify for ESOS must carry out ESOS assessments every 4 years. These assessments are audits of the energy used by their buildings, industrial processes and transport to identify cost-effective energy saving measures.

The qualification criteria have remained unchanged and if your business qualified for Phase 1 of ESOS, it is expected that you will need to comply with Phase 2. If your business did not quality for ESOS Phase 1 but your staff numbers or turnover has changed, it may now be necessary to consider Phase 2.

Purchase Direct customers who were audited by the Environment Agency were all deemed to be ESOS compliant. Some aspects of our approach to ESOS were highlighted by the Environment Agency as examples of ‘Best Practice’. This was a fantastic achievement, as only 16% of all UK companies that the Environment Agency audited were found to be fully compliant.
